Abstract: The Government launched the “School-based After School Care Service Scheme” (the Scheme) in 2023/24 school year, allowing primary students in need to stay outside school hours for care and learning support. This will help their parents go to work and will also benefit single parent households. 59 primary schools located in Kowloon City, Yau Tsim Mong, Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong, Kwai Tsing, Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long Districts joined the Scheme, providing nearly 3 000 service places. The Government extended the Scheme to 2024/25 school year, covering 126 primary schools across all 18 Districts and providing about 5 900 service places. The Education Bureau has invited all government, aided and direct subsidy scheme primary schools in Hong Kong to join the Scheme in the 2025/26 school year without imposing a cap on the number of places.
